Dear HAUS Member and anyone in Ohio
with a connection to Universität Heidelberg in Deutschland
We’re planning our 4th annual get-together in Ohio to celebrate our Heidelberg Uni roots, and to taste a
few beers. This time, we’re eyeing Cleveland because of its fantastic Great Lakes Brewing Company. I
would venture to call them the best beers West of Deutschland, and they’re made right here in Ohio. A
short description borrowed from their website is reprinted at the end of this letter.
DATE: Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 6:00 pmOur host this time is Bill Landess from nearby Hudson, Ohio. He has arranged to get a room at the
Brewery for our group if we have at least 20 people. I think that we can do that. (If not, we’ll reserve a
group of tables in the main hall.) http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/home
Either way, it will be a great time. And of course, significant others are welcome!
Bill has also found a good deal for that weekend at The DoubleTree Downtown. It’s a 7 minute drive
from the Brewery, has lake views and is close to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Doubletree will block
off some rooms for us if we let them know in advance. The rate is currently $95/night. The next
morning, a walk in the National Park could be outstanding, if the weather cooperates.
Here are some additional things to do if you arrive early, or would rather do something other than walk:
- Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – open every day from 10am to 5:30pm
- Cleveland Science Center (next to the R&R HoF) – open every day 10am – 5pm
- Cleveland Aquarium – open every day 10am-6pm
- Cleveland Museum of Art – Fri 10am to 9pm, Sat & Sun 10am-5pm
make the appropriate reservations: Mark.Peeples@alumni.uni-heidelberg.de
We’ll send you more info as we get closer.
We hope to see you on the weekend of April 28 in Cleveland!

Lieder on April 28. I may not have mentioned that part before.)
